Job Description

Job Overview Coordinates and delivers interpretation (oral) and translation (written) services for individuals with limited English proficiency across all Intermountain Health facilities and virtual services. Schedule and Shift Part‑time, 32 hours per week. Must work Thursday and Friday 6:00 PM–6:30 AM and Monday 8:00 AM–5:30 PM. Essential Functions Interpret medical and general information with high accuracy in consecutive, simultaneous and sight translation modes. Demonstrate expert knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare system. Act as a cultural mediator, rendering unbiased interpretations. Adhere to National Code of Ethics and related privacy statutes. Manage time proactively, responding to requests promptly and providing estimated arrival times. Use electronic tools for research, data entry and record‑keeping. Translate written material, ensuring meaning and localization, and complete assignments on time. Excellent oral and written command of source and target languages (Professional Proficiency or Level 3 ILR). Perform consecutive, simultaneous, and sight translation with high accuracy. Effective in a fast‑paced, high‑pressure environment. Prioritize and multi‑task. Interpersonal verbal and written skills; flexible and good judgement. Certificate of completion from a 40‑hr Professional Medical Interpreter course. Alternative Qualifications Hold an interpreting certification in another field. College degree in translation or working language. Two years of professional interpreter experience. Preferred Qualifications Two years of interpreter experience in healthcare. Bachelor’s degree in Interpretation/Translation or related field. National certification from CCHI or NBCMI; state license (DOPL) in Utah. College‑level medical terminology course. Knowledge of EPIC. Physical Requirements View, read, and assess information, labels, documents, monitors. Communicate verbally and comprehend spoken information quickly. Manual dexterity for handling supplies and equipment, frequent computer use. Driving requires reading signs, signals, and other vehicles. Work Location Intermountain Health Primary Children's Hospital, Salt Lake City, Utah. Pay and Benefits Hourly rate: $21.70 – $31.90. Benefits are available to eligible employees.
