Job Description

The Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) works under the supervision of a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) to provide speech and language services that support students in achieving their educational goals. The SLPA collaborates with speech-language pathologists, teachers, school administrators, related service providers, parents, and district staff to implement therapy plans that promote effective communication and student success within the educational environment.

Qualifications

  • Current Arizona Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) license.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree from an accredited Speech-Language Pathology Assistant program or equivalent educational requirements as recognized by the Arizona Board of Examiners.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of pediatric or school-based experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of speech and language disorders, articulation, language development, fluency, voice, and social communication.
  • Ability to implement treatment plans developed by a supervising Speech-Language Pathologist.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, families, school personnel, and multidisciplinary teams.

Essential Job Functions

  • Provide direct speech and language therapy services under the supervision of a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist.
  • Implement individualized treatment plans designed by the supervising SLP.
  • Assist students in developing articulation, language, fluency, voice, and pragmatic communication skills.
  • Collect therapy data and document student progress toward IEP goals.
  • Prepare therapy materials and maintain therapy equipment and supplies.
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, related service providers, and families to support student success.
  • Assist with classroom strategies and communication supports as directed by the supervising SLP.
  • Participate in IEP meetings, staff meetings, and professional development as appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in accordance with district, state, and federal requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervising Speech-Language Pathologist or district administration.
